Maryann Bruce, one of Directors & Boards' "Directors to Watch 2017" and accomplished C-suite advisor, offers practical advice to executives who are seeking to transition seamlessly into board directorship. Her first two tips in this series can be found in last month's newsletter.
Tip #3: Make senior management of your organization aware that you're interested in being on a board. Request exposure to the company’s current board, which may lead to your making a presentation to members or perhaps attending a board dinner.
Tip #4: Get published. Writing articles or blogs about your area of expertise goes a long way toward establishing your personal brand. Let people know what you know.
Tip #5: Network at every opportunity. Connect with search firms, research companies, accounting and law firms with board practices, and other service providers that cater to boards, and make them aware of your desire to serve.
*Stay tuned for more tips from Maryann Bruce in next month's newsletter.
